BOTSWANA
HOME OF THE OKAVANGO DELTA
When you look around while seated in your mokoro in the Okavango Delta, it is as if time has stood still in this part of the world. The scenery would have been the same centuries ago - untouched by human development and where giant herds of elephants roam free. Botswana is a landlocked country in southern Africa, but every year, the water channels of the Okavango Delta swell with the rainwater which has flowed for hundreds of kilometres from the Angolan highlands. And with this water, life around the Delta flourishes.
A short flight away from the Delta is another highlight of any Botswanan trip is the Magkadigkadi Pan, one of the largest salt pans in the world. Between December and April, zebras embark on their annual migration towards the Kalahari Desert, passing through the pan. It is a sight to behold on a helicopter safari!
